What is Train to Gain?
Train to Gain is a government initiative designed to help small and medium businesses in the UK gain access to quality training for their staff. You can receive significant funding to develop the leadership and management skills of people in your company. Speak First works closely with a Train to Gain specialist adviser who is familiar with our courses. Funding is available for any of our courses - open or in-company.
How much is the funding worth?
Train to Gain will fund up to £500 of training without any contribution from you. That means you can attend many of our open courses absolutely free of charge (especially as we’re offering a discount on many of our courses for those using Train to Gain – see below). Or you can put the funding towards an in-company course.
Train to Gain will also match £ for £ up to another £500. That means you can access up to a maximum of £1000 of funding.
What is Speak First offering?
As a special offer to those using Train to Gain, we’ll discount our one-day top level open courses, usually worth £595, to £500, so that you can attend for free. Meanwhile, our two-day courses usually charged at £695, will be discounted to £600, so you only have to pay £50 (£500 free + £50 matched by Train to Gain).
We will also offer you a favourable rate on our in-company courses, so you can book training for multiple participants and pay from only £600 per day, with Train to Gain funding the rest of the price.

Who qualifies for the funding?
Any organisation that:
- employs between 5 and 249 people (These can include part time and volunteers)
- is based within the M25 area (Different funding applies outside this area, but we can still help - contact us for details)
- has not previously received a management and leadership grant through Train to Gain
- wants funding to access first-class training
The person accessing the grant must be a Director, CEO or senior manager responsible for strategic direction or must obtain an email from the director which states they are responsible for strategic direction.
