When we think of creativity, we often think of the arts. However, creativity doesn’t need to be pigeonholed into certain types of jobs or hobbies. It can enhance many aspects of life, including corporate work, through brainstorming and idea generation. In fact, studies have established that the majority of people believe creativity is essential for economic growth, both now and in the future.

This course will introduce the three modes of thinking, focussing on the divergent thinking that underlies creative thoughts. It then provides participants with practical exercises to show the benefits of creative thinking, in all its five forms, when coming up with a new idea or concept.

Participants will leave the session with a thorough understanding of the benefits of embracing creativity at work and with the tools to do so.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this session, participants will:

  • Understand what divergent thinking is and how it can enhance idea generation at work
  • Have an appreciation for the cognitive underpinnings of creativity
  • Know the five different aspects of creativity and how they impact how we are personally creative
  • Have acquired an array of tools to increase creativity in the moment and be able to generate good, creative ideas
